Did you realize January is "National Walk Your Dog Month?" Have some fun while taking your pooch for a walk! If you are out on the Old No. 9 Trail, or other spots in Boerne, take a selfie with your four-legged bestie and send it to us! We'll post the very cute pics on the Library's social media pages. We'll have a drawing at the end of January from among the entries, and the winner will receive a gift basket of goodies from Fetch & Friskers! We'll also feature displays of suggested reading on titles about dogs, so stop in the Library to check it out! Send pooch selfies to: Caren. Patrons of all ages can join in on this fun!
Are you excited about the reboot of the PBS show All Creatures Great and Small? We sure are! We will be hosting a watch party the evening of the premier! Watch with us from the comfort of your home! Register for the watch party here, through this zoom link. The premier is Sunday, January 10th, at 8 pm (Central). Stop by the Library prior to January 10th, and pick up a few packets of Yorkshire Tea to enjoy at home, while you watch the premier! Other ways to gear up for the program: Read the beloved books by James Herriot. If you have Amazon Prime, there is a wonderful program titled The Yorkshire Vet, that is available to watch (TV-PG). It's a reality show set in the same vet practice founded by James Herriot.
Join us on Thursday, January 21st for a Live! at the Library Facebook Streaming Concert with Tyler Jackson! 7 p.m. from the comfort of your own home. We hope to resume live Amphitheater concerts in March.
Due to COVID-19, many groups are not meeting as normal. Please call ahead to make sure programming is as scheduled.
Adult Discussion Groups
The library offers a wide variety of Book and other Discussion Groups. There are groups that meet on Poetry, Mystery, and other genres. Please stop by and check out our Discussion Groups! Please note: Mary's Potpourri and Jane Austen are currently not meeting.
Live! at the Library
Come check us out on the third Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the amphitheater for great music and other performing arts. Bring a picnic and lawn chairs or blanket. Weather may move us inside at times; bring your chairs anyway!
We offer technology assistance in the lobby most weekdays. Check our events calendar for times or call the library. In addition, we utilize several database programs to assist those in need of basic computer training. See the upstairs desk for assistance and we can log you into those self-directed programs today!
History Programs and Resources
Library staff, volunteers from the Dietert Historical Archives, and anyone who is interested in history head to a town or location of historical significance to learn more about the area in which we live. Check our events calendar for more information. You can also access many different resources to find out more about the history of Boerne and the surrounding area.
ESL Classes take place in the spring and fall each year. Check our events calendar to see when the next set of classes will be offered. In addition, we offer one-on-one mentoring assistance to improve conversational language. We are always seeking volunteers to assist us with mentoring. Call for more information.
We also offer a language learning database, Mango Languages.
Need a little more involved time for research or assistance? We can offer half-hour blocks of time with a librarian! Just give us a call at (830) 249-3053, or text us through Gabbie, to schedule it, so that we can make appropriate desk arrangements while we help you.
